Drink Up With Marine Water Makers

If only you had the power to make water, huh? That would make you God, so this scenario doesn't seem likely any time soon. However, marine water makers allow you to make fresh water from sea water. And in case you haven't noticed, there is plenty of water out there to drink, given that 70% of the planet is covered in ocean. That brings up some interesting questions...why not just drink ocean water, or sea water, straight from a jug?

Suffice it to say, it is not healthy. Now you will probably find a lot of conflicting opinions as to just how harmful it is. Some say that drinking ocean water would be fatal, because it would harm your kidneys. Some authorities have conducted extensive research to see just how harmful ocean water is and have come to a similar, but less dramatic conclusion: it is unhealthy, if not necessarily fatal.

Marine makers are preferable in this situation, because seawater is rich in dissolved ions and also has high salt content. If you are extremely thirsty and down gallons of sea water then things will end up badly for you. This is because there is so much salt in the water that you will need more liquid just to eliminate that salt through waste. Since all you are ingesting is salt water, this is impossible. Some people who have reported drinking sea water have reported side effects of dehydration and diarrhea. Safe to say, drinking seawater will not sustain you for long.

However, with marine water maker you can actually take this undrinkable seawater and turn it into fresh water. Water makers operate through a desalination process. There are three basic techniques that convert the seawater: reverse osmosis, vacuum distillation and flash distillation. These systems are usually powered by battery electricity, or an engine or an AC generator. There are also smaller hand-operated marine water makers that are considered "portable." The process is similar to water filtering, but is a more intensive process. The amount of water that can be processed depends on the size and power of the ship.

Marine water makers may be relatively new, but the biggest problem wasn't always with technology. In years past however, ship owners couldn't justify taking aboard water makers that had such high energy requirements. Now, with portable and more advanced systems, these water makers are becoming more widespread.

They can certainly be advantageous for cruise ships with a lot of people traveling, or for boaters and yachters that expect to be traveling for weeks on end. In addition to sea journeying, many travelers trust their marine water makers over local land water. Bad water can instantly make you sick. When you have a water maker, you always have a newly filtered drink at your disposal.

There are plenty of marine water makers online selling for different prices. They can start at a few hundred dollars or even cost upwards of $4,000 for industrial use. This is the best way to stay safe on the ocean while keeping well hydrated.
